I love this work with synonyms - it is a great way to get students thinking about their word choices in both their writing and everyday conversation.
Some ideas for use:
- classifying the degrees of meaning of each synonym
- play charades or password
- allow children to choose 2 - 3 words for sentences or stories
- as a group create sentences and switch synonyms to see how each modifies the sentence
